Summary

This research report was commissioned by The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) and produced by the Mixed Economy Group of colleges. It investigated scholarly activity in college-based HE. The remit was to examine the current arrangements surrounding scholarly activity and to draw up a Practice Guide which would be of use to the wide range of colleges currently providing HE in FE. MEG produced three potentially-standalone documents. Part 1 offers a literature review of the subject and leads into the main research output, the results of a survey of scholarly activity amongst 60 colleges (Part 2). Part 3 is the Practice Guide which emerged from the survey.
